CAREER/LIFE PLANNING
Individuals desiring help with their career/life planning may make an
appointment for career counseling. A variety of career
inventories are available to help students identify possible occupations
based on their interests, values, and experiences. Some
of the inventories used are the Self-Directed Search (SDS), the Strong
Interest Inventory (SII), and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
The inventories are administered free-of-charge. Please call (570) 740-0450
or 740-0485 to set up an appointment.
Career/Life Planning services are available for prospective students,
undecided students, general studies students, students considering a change
of major, and for community members considering a
career change or wishing to return to school.
CAREER RESOURCE CENTER
Current information is necessary for students to make career or job
decisions, Resources available in the center include employers' information,
employment directories, job search guides, self-assessment and career planning books,
vocational bibliographies, career and occupational information, transfer
guides to four-year institutions, and local and regional college catalogues, videos, and
cd's.
JOB

The Career Services Office receives hundreds of full-time,
part-time, summer, and internship listings from local and regional
employers. A complete listing of these openings is
available in the Career Services Office located in Building 9.
Full-time openings may also be viewed on our web site under
Job Announcements.
By registering with Career Services, students can receive announcements of job openings as they
occur. Students are responsible for contacting an employer about a position
they wish to apply for. Assistance is also available to help students with
resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing tips and job search strategies.
ON CAMPUS
RECRUITING/JOB FAIRS
As students
plan to graduate and enter the workforce, they are encouraged to attend as
many job fairs and on-campus recruiting events as possible to maximize their
chances for employment. Announcements of recruiting visits will appear on
the Job Announcement web page under "On-Campus
Recruiters." Announcements of job fairs, both at LCCC and locally, will
appear on the Career Services web site under "Upcoming
Events," as well as in the student newspaper, and on the television monitors located conveniently in
various campus buildings.
COLLEGE-LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)
This program is a common way through which students may earn college
credit for what they have learned. Students can take the CLEP tests, and if
the results are transferable to their college, they can earn college credit.
Students may be able to earn as much as 12 credits of college credit and may
be eligible to take advanced courses.
There are 34 exams offered by CLEP. They cover courses in business,
composition and literature, foreign language, history, social science,
science, and mathematics. CLEP exams are 90 minutes long and are
administered on the computer. Students receive instant score reports
following competition of the exam. With the exception of English Composition
with Essay, the exams are primarily multiple-choice questions. The English
Composition with Essay exam consists of a 45-minute multiple-choice section
and a 45-minute essay section, which must be typed.
For a list of CLEP eligible courses, please see:
www.collegeboard.com/clep
The Career Services
