The Power Search

<---- Previous, Advanced Search

A power search allows more flexibility in your searches through the use of Boolean Operators. The power search works like the Advanced search except that it allows you to change the Boolean Operators. So what are these Operators?

Boolean operators are the three words, "AND", "OR", and "NOT." These operators tools assist users in finding items by giving specific results. Using operators to find items about "galaxies" and "universe", for example, one uses the AND operator for results that include only where both "galaxies" and "universe" describe the same items. The OR operator increases the size of the results pool by including all results from all search terms, while the NOT operator restricts the size of the results pool, eliminating some results. Boolean operators are used extensively in the journal databases.
